New Delhi: The government think tank Niti Aayog have objected the proposal of preferential equity infusion in the two PSUs -- BSNL and MTNL -- amounting to nearly Rs 14,000 crores for acquiring 4G spectrum observing that the returns on such high investments from them are almost nil and it is not essential.

The department of telecom (DoT) had sought Niti Aayog’s views on the 4G spectrum allocation proposals for PSUs — BSNL and MTNL — that might cost the exchequer about Rs 14,000 crore.

Mumbai: Domestic equities declined for the second day as the BSE benchmark Sensex on Thursday fell over 100 points on weak global cues and heavy selling by foreign and domestic institutional investors.

The 30-share index was trading 103.90 points, or 0.29 per cent, lower at 35,787.62 in morning trade. Similarly, the NSE Nifty declined by 28.85 points, or 0.27 per cent, to 10,763.65.

New Delhi: Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd has wrested market share from Bharti Airtel Ltd and Vodafone Idea Ltd, as the relatively new entrant in the telecom sector continued to add a large number of users even as its bigger rivals lost customers. Reliance Jio added 10.5 million users in October while Vodafone Idea and Airtel lost 7.3 million and 1.8 million users, respectively, according to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on Wednesday.

After the mega PSU bank merger between Bank of Baroda, Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank received Union Cabinet approval yesterday, shares of BoB rallied while the other two lenders tanked in the morning trade on Thursday, as investors reacted to the merger swap ratio. Shares of Bank of Baroda rallied more than 3% to Rs 123.40 on NSE while, Vijaya Bank shares plunged by nearly 7.5% to hit the day’s low at Rs 51.05. Dena Bank shares tanked by 20% to Rs 14.40 in the morning trade.

New Delhi: Bank of Baroda (BoB) on Wednesday finalised the share swap ratio for merger of Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank with itself. As per the Scheme of Amalgamation, shareholders of Vijaya Bank will get 402 equity shares of BoB for every 1,000 shares held. In case of Dena Bank, its shareholders will get 110 shares for every 1,000 shares of BoB.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has given its approval to Paytm Payments Bank Ltd, which is co-owned by One97 Communications and Vijay Shekhar Sharma, to restart its know your customers (KYC) process as well as open fresh accounts. In June last year, the central bank directed Paytm Payments Bank to stop opening new accounts and e-wallets, after an audit in which the banking regulator observed that the company violated KYC norms.
