India sees boosting green power by 2030, exceeding Modi's climate target

Solar and wind energy projects may constitute over half of India’s total power capacity of by 2030, according to a draft report by the country’s power-planning body, which sees the country surpassing its climate goals.

Solar and wind projects are seen constituting 440 gigawatts of capacity out of the projected 831 gigawatts in more than a decade, the Central Electricity Authority said in the report Monday.

India’s workforce has fewer women than it did six years ago: no more than 18% in rural areas are employed, compared to 25% in 2011-12 and 14% in urban from 15%. However, in urban areas, the percentage of women in salaried jobs has increased from 35.6% in 2004 to 52.1% in 2017, but continue to be under-represented compared to their presence in self-employed or casual work, according to an analysis of the latest government employment data by Azim Premji University researchers.

Maruti Suzuki India Monday reported a 14 per cent decline in total sales at 1,24,708 units in June as against 1,44,981 units in the same month last year.

Domestic sales during the month were down 15.3 per cent at 1,14,861 units last month compared to 1,35,662 units in June last year, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement.

New Delhi: State-run telecom firm Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) on Saturday cleared June salary of all its employees, while it awaits clearance of around ₹14,000 crore in dues from the telecom department.

"BSNL has cleared salary payments of all employees for June from internal accruals of about ₹2,000 crore," an official source, who did not wish to be named, told PTI.

The second largest private sector lender ICICI Bank has cut its lending rates by 0.10 percent which will make all the loans cheaper, sources said Monday. The move comes weeks after it cut its deposit rates and amid calls for banks to quickly pass on the benefits of rate cuts by the RBI, which stands at a full 75 bps since February. The bank has cut its marginal cost of funds based lending rate (MCLR) across all tenors by 0.10 percent, they said adding the new rates are effective immediately.
