With 108 new casualties on Monday, the death toll in China due to the deadly novel coronavirus outbreak has reached 1,016 as reported by the health authority on Tuesday.

The highest daily increase was reported on Monday with 97 deaths.

Of the new deaths, 103 were in the province of Hubei, including 67 in the provincial capital of Wuhan where the epidemic is believed to have originated.

Oil prices fell to their lowest level since December 2018 on Monday on weaker Chinese demand in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak and as traders waited to see if Russia would join other producers in seeking further output cuts.

Shares of YES Bank gained 5 per cent to Rs 40.70 on the BSE on Monday in intra-day trade after the bank's shareholders cleared fund raising proposal of up to Rs 10,000 crore by issuing equity shares or convertible securities which would help enhance the private sector lender’s capital adequacy. The stock of private sector lender was trading higher for the fourth straight day.

At an extraordinary general meeting on Friday, investors authorised the lender’s plans to raise capital through issuance of equity shares or other convertible securities (Special Resolution).

Shares of Alkem Laboratories surged 8 per cent to hit a new high of Rs 2,699, on the BSE, on Monday after it reported a strong 56.8 per cent year on year (YoY) growth in consolidated profit before tax (PBT) at Rs 40.46 crore for the December quarter (Q3FY20). The pharmaceuticals company had PBT of Rs 25.81 crore in the year ago quarter.

Meanwhile, the board of directors of the company declared an interim dividend of Rs 22 per equity share for the financial year 2019-20. The company has fixed Saturday, February 15, 2020 as the record date for the purpose of payment of interim dividend.
