COVID-19: India sees 48,916 new cases, 757 deaths; tally reaches 13.36 lakh

India has witnessed a huge single-day spike of COVID-19 cases with 48,916 cases reported in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
With these fresh cases, India's coronavirus cases tally has gone up to 13,36,861, out of which there are 4,56,071 active cases and 8,49,431 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated.
The death toll has gone up to 31,358 with 757 fatalities reported in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with 3,57,117 cases reported until Friday.
While Tamil Nadu has a tally of 1,99,749 cases and 3,320 deaths due to COVID-19, Delhi has reported a total of 1,28,389 cases and 3,777 deaths due to the virus.
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that 1,58,49,068 samples have been tested for COVID-19 till July 22, of these 4,20,898 samples were tested on July 24.

In a significant step towards global healthcare innovation, the World Health Organization (WHO) has released a technical brief titled "Mapping the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Traditional Medicine", acknowledging India's pioneering efforts in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) with traditional medicine systems, particularly Ayush systems.
The WHO release follows India's proposal on the subject, leading to the development of WHO's first-ever roadmap for applying AI in traditional medicine, the Ayush Ministry said in a release.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu on Saturday hailed the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) for conducting a "transparent and professional" investigation into the Air India flight AI171 crash.
The Air India Boeing 787-8 aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12, resulting in the deaths of 260 individuals, including 229 passengers, 12 crew members, and 19 people on the ground.
