Aarogya Setu safe to use, no security breach happened: App developers

Amid concerns about security and privacy of user data, the developers of the Aarogya Setu app, a smartphone application developed by the Centre to contain the spread of coronavirus, have issued an official statement reaffirming that no data and security breach has been identified and the application is safe to use.

The statement came after a French security researcher Robert Baptiste, better known as Elliott Alderson, claimed that it is capable of leaking data of the around 9 crore users who have downloaded the app.

As COVID-19 cases continue to spiral in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday decided to withdraw the relaxations given from lockdown in the city, including the permission to reopen liquor shops.

Only essential services will be available from Wednesday, the BMC said in an order issued on Tuesday night.

The Delhi government on Tuesday hiked the Value-Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel, making fuel costlier in the national capital starting today. The VAT was increased to the tune of 3% on petrol (from 27% to 30%) and as much as 13.25% on diesel (from 16.75% to 30%).

This translates to an increase of Rs 1.67 and of Rs 7.10 on petrol and diesel respectively.

The order informed that movement in the city of one or more persons for all non-essential services is prohibited between 8 PM to 7 AM. However movement of vehicles for medical reasons, including emergencies, and essential services will still be allowed.
