In an effort to tap the festive season, Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) on Thursday rolled out limited edition of Alto K10 ‘Urbano’, which will be available at an extra price of Rs 16990 over the existing variants.

The Alto K10 Urbano sports 18 new features and is available on the LX, LXi, VXi and VXi (O) trim levels, including CNG.

Maruti Suzuki shares declined over 2 per cent in the morning trade on Monday after Jefferies downgraded the carmaker’s stocks to ‘underperform’ from ‘buy’. According to the global investment bank, Maruti’s strong outlook is in the price and its stock is trading at all-time high multiples.

At 11.41 am, Maruti Suzuki shares were trading 2.22 per cent down at Rs 4478 a piece. The scrip opened at Rs 4,572 and had touched a high and low of Rs 4,572 and Rs 4,475, respectively, in trade so far.

Maruti Suzuki is expected to sign a re-worked state support agreement with the Gujarat government after an awaited nod from its minority shareholders that will allow Japanese parent Suzuki Motor Corporation to run the upcoming plant in Hansalpur.

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, has raised the average gross salary of the 12,900 workers at its facilities in Manesar and Gurgaon by Rs 16,800 a month, spread through three years beginning April this year. This is seven per cent lower than the salary rise of Rs 18,000 given by the company for the three years ended March this year. Last week, Ford had signed a wage agreement with the workers’ union at its Chennai plant, approving a rise of Rs 15,000 a month, spread through three years. The average salary of the workers is Rs 30,000-35,000 a month.

It was not Maruti Suzuki's stock alone that was on a roll last month, touching a new high after it announced a 56-per cent jump in first quarter profit and a high double-digit increase in July vehicle sales. Delhi-based Competent Auto, Maruti's only listed dealer, too, saw its stock touch a new high.

Being the only listed dealership of Maruti, it can be considered a good proxy for the growth witnessed by the country's largest passenger vehicle maker. Maruti's sales in the domestic market went up by 11.1 per cent to 1.17 million units in the year ended March.

"Suzuki Motor Co. will celebrate its centenary in 2020 and from now till then we will launch 20 all new products of which a majority will be produced in India," so said Toshihiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki Motor Co. while speaking to a select group of Indian journalists on the sidelines of the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Kicking off this 20-model onslaught at Frankfurt was the all-new Baleno, totally made in India for the domestic as well as the global markets.

NEW DELHI: Car market leader Maruti SuzukiBSE 0.59 % India ranks highest in brand influence, followed by Hyundai Motor India and Toyota Kirloskar Motor, global market research firm JD Power said.

According to the JD Power Asia Pacific '2015 India Brand Influence and Positioning Study', Maruti Suzuki ranks highest in brand influence with a score of 839 (on a 1,000-point scale), with Hyundai coming in second (767) and Toyota third (744).
