The BSE Sensex snapped its three-day rising streak to end 194 points lower on Wednesday, pressured by losses in banking and auto stocks amid a broad sell-off in overseas markets.

Investors were also cautious ahead of the release of inflation and factory output numbers, traders said.

Mumbai: Rising for a third straight session, the BSE benchmark Sensex on Tuesday added another 166 points on the back of strong buying in banking, metal and energy stocks amid positive global cues.

After rallying nearly 300 points during the day, the BSE gauge settled 165.94 points, or 0.42 per cent, higher at 39,950.46. The index hit an intra-day high of 40,066.31 and a low of 40,066.31.

The benchmark BSE Sensex rallied over 350 points and the NSE Nifty reclaimed the 11,900 level in early trade Monday driven by gains in IT and banking stocks amid positive global and domestic cues.

After hitting a peak of 39,979.48, the 30-share index was trading 272.07 points, or 0.69 %, higher at 39,887.97. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty spurted 76.25 points, or 0.64 %, to 11,946.90.

Domestic equity benchmark BSE Sensex fell over 200 points in early trade on Friday led by losses in financial stocks amid concerns over the state of the NBFC sector.

The 30-share index was trading 211.04 points, or 0.53 per cent, lower at 39,318.68, and the broader Nifty slipped 34.25 points, or 0.29 per cent, to 11,809.50.
