Shares of information technology (IT) companies are continue at their upward march with frontline stocks such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys and HCL Technologies have hit their respective record high on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

At 1105 hours, S&P BSE IT index, the largest gainer among sectoral indices, was up 0.65% compared to 0.48% decline in benchmark index S&P BSE Sensex. IT index touched a record high of 11,001 in intra-day trade today.

After a long weekend, the rupee strengthened by 22 paise to 61.39 against the dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on Tuesday on increased selling of the US currency by exporters and banks.

Forex dealers said besides increased selling of the American currency by exporters and banks, the dollar's weakness against other currencies overseas also supported the rupee, but a lower opening in the domestic equity market limited the rise.

Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has moved higher by 2% to Rs 1,490 after the company said it has won new orders worth Rs 1,423 crore across various business segments in September 2014, including order from Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation.

The company’s heavy civil infrastructure business has bagged a Rs 631 crore prestigious order from the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation Limited for the construction of the Lucknow Metro, L&T said in a statement.

Mumbai: The 30-share bellwether BSE Sensex was trading marginally down ahead of Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI’s) bi-monthly policy due later on Tuesday.

RBI will release its monetary policy at 11am. RBI to maintain repurchase rate at 8% to shield the rupee from potential increases in US borrowing costs and sustain a fight against inflation, all 51 analysts in a Bloomberg survey predict. The government will also announce fiscal deficit data on Tuesday.

BSE Ltd and Bank of New York Mellon have signed an agreement enabling foreign investors to provide AAA rated sovereign bonds traded outside of India as collateral for trades done on the domestic exchange, the two parties said in a joint statement released late on Friday.
