Canadian Oil Sands Trust puts its trust in the oil that is in the sands in Alberta being exploited by Syncrude Canada. The Syncrude partnership's large oil sands mine and supporting plants produce value-added light, sweet crude oil. Established in 1964, the Syncrude Project is the largest single source of oil in Canada and accounts for about 15% of the country's total oil production. With a 37% share, Canadian Oil Sands Trust is the largest shareholder in Syncrude (in which Imperial Oil and Petro-Canada also hold significant minority stakes). In 2008 Canadian Oil Sands Trust reported proved and probable reserves of 1.8 billion barrels of oil equivalent.

CanArgo Energy, formerly Fountain Oil, is an independent oil and gas company that primarily acquires, develops, and exploits gas and oil properties in Eastern Europe. The main focus of CanArgo Energy is the Ninotsminda field in the Kura Basin in the Republic of Georgia, where the company's Ninotsminda Oil subsidiary operates a production-sharing venture with Georgian Oil. In 2008 CanArgo's shares of reported proved reserves at the Ninotsminda field stood at 1.3 million barrels of oil and 1.5 billion cu. ft. of natural gas equivalent. CanArgo Energy Corporation reported oil production from the field of 400 barrels a day and gas production of 49,000 cubic meters per day.

The company was founded in 1997 and is based in Fort Worth, Texas.Cano Petroleum, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, operates as an independent oil and natural gas company in the United States. Cano Petroleum, Inc. properties are located onshore U.S. in Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. As of June 30, 2009, it had 49.1 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMBOE) of proved reserves comprising 7.7 MMBOE of proved developed producing reserves, 2.4 MMBOE of proved developed non-producing reserves, and 39.0 MMBOE of proved undeveloped reserves. Cano secured its first round of institutional funding with a $5.1 financing from Wellington Management. In May, 2005, Cano was accepted for listing on the American Stock Exchange and in July a number of the company’s officers, directors, management and others were on hand for the ceremonial bell–ringing.

Cenovus Energy reserves the right to recover and refine oil in the US and Canada. With major operations in Alberta and Saskatchewan, Cenovus Energy Inc. has proved reserves of some 909 million barrels of oil equivalent and about 1.9 trillion cu. ft. of natural gas. Cenovus Energy Inc. also maintains ownership interest in two refineries in Illinois and Texas that are part of a 50/50 joint venture with ConocoPhillips. That venture provides integration of Cenovus' upstream oil production with downstream refining of such consumer products as diesel, gasoline, and jet fuel. Together, the refineries have a processing capacity of about 500,000 barrels of oil per day. Cenovus Energy was formed in late 2009 as a spinoff of EnCana.
