Toyota Motor Italia says Konichiwa to La Dolce Vita. The Toyota Motor Italia S.p.A. is Toyota Motor's Italian sales and marketing arm. Toyota Motor Italia offers Toyota cars, trucks, minivans, and SUVs to customers in the land that gave rise to the Ferrari and Lamborghini. While North Americans might recognize models like Corolla, Rav4, and Land Cruiser, in Italy Toyota also sells the Hilux (compact four-door pickup) and Avensis Berlina (sedan). Toyota's latest addition to its Italian offerings is the Aygo -- a compact car for the European market. Toyota jointly developed the Aygo with Renault.

Toyota's first new Canadian plant in more than 20 years began production in Woodstock, Ontario, in late 2008. Is a Japanese car technically Japanese if it's manufactured in Canada? You bet! Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC) is Toyota Motor's Canadian manufacturing hub. TMMC rolls more than 300,000 Toyota vehicles -- including the Corolla, Matrix, Lexus RX350, and RAV4 models -- off its assembly line each year. The company's plants, which are located in Southern Ontario, include stamping, welding, painting, and assembly operations. Subassembly shops make plastics and powertrain components that are then sent to the assembly units; plastic parts are also produced for the replacement market.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana (TMMI) produces the full-size Sequoia SUV, the Highlander mid-size SUV, and the Sienna minivan (the production of which was moved from Kentucky) for one of Toyota's largest markets -- the US. TMMI began operations in 1996. Indiana is home to James Dean, David Letterman, and Michael Jackson, as well as Toyota, which picked the southern part of the Hoosier state as home to one of its biggest vehicle manufacturing facilities. After parent Toyota invested $450 million to upgrade the plant, TMMI opened a visitor's center that offers public tram tours of its 4 million-sq.-ft. manufacturing facility.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky (TMMK) is where the land of the rising sun has set on the bluegrass state. TMMK, Toyota's largest manufacturing facility outside of Japan, makes the Toyota Camry (the #1 choice with American consumers), Avalon, and Venza for the North American market. To the red of the sun and the blue of the grass, TMMK adds green to the mix with its production of the Camry Hybrid to satisfy the hemisphere's appetite for alternative fueled vehicles. Other products manufactured include 4 cylinder and V6 engines, and powertrain components. TMMK, which can produce 500,000 engines and vehicles per year, rolled its first complete car off its assembly line in 1990.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas (TMMTX) can host a heck of a big tailgate party. A subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, TMMTX operates an assembly plant just outside San Antonio that opened in late 2006. The factory makes but one Toyota model -- the full-size Tundra pickup. TMMTX initially planned to roll 150,000 trucks off the San Antonio assembly line annually, but later decided to increase the plant's capacity while it was still in the initial construction phase. The move was aimed at efficiently adding capacity on the front end so the plant can more easily adapt to market conditions. At peak capacity the new plant can roll a Tundra off the assembly line every 73 seconds -- or about 200,000 per year.
