Western Area Power Administration is one of four power marketing agencies of the US Department of Energy, the enterprise operates 57 hydroelectric power plants and one fossil-fueled power generation facility with a combined generating capacity of 10,395 MW. Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative keeps the power flowing to the residences and businesses of more than 200,360 member-owners in five counties along the central Florida Gulf Coast. The power distribution utility, which was originally set up in 1941, receives wholesale generation and transmission services from the Seminole Electric Cooperative. Withlacoochee River Electric, a non-profit organization, returns any funds remaining at the end of each year to its membership. The cooperative has returned more than $190 million to its member-owners.

Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation (WCNOC) helps to sate the energy hunger of the US public. The nuclear plant operator is in charge of the Wolf Creek Generating Station in Kansas, which houses a four-loop pressurized water reactor that generates about 1,200 MW of electricity (enough to power some 800,000 homes). WCNOC is joint venture between Westar Energy, which owns a 47% stake, Great Plains Energy (which through subsidiary Kansas City Power & Light owns 47%), and Kansas Electric Power Cooperative, 6%. Its job description is to operate, maintain, repair, and eventually decommission the Wolf Creek Generating Station.

Wolverine Power Supply Cooperative makes sure that that voracious consumer of electricity -- the American public -- gets the power its needs. The non-profit company is an electric generation and transmission utility that provides services to five member distribution cooperatives in Michigan. Wolverine Power Supply Cooperative monitors and operates 1,600 miles of bulk transmission lines and owns five power plants that generate 200 megawatts of capacity. It also maintains about 130 distribution substations and 36 transmission stations, as well as purchases power (including windpower energy) from other utilities and marketers to distribute to its customers.
