China Power International Development Limited (China Power) is one of five national power generating groups that construct and operate large power plants in China. The company is a subsidiary of CPI Holding, and is ultimately controlled by China Power Investment Group (CPI Group). China Power owns five high-capacity coal-fired power plants, including the Pingwei Power Plant and the Yaomeng Power Plant. It also has stakes in power plants in Changshu and Shanghai. The company has an installed capacity of more than 9,000 MW. China Power also manages three other power plants, which have a total installed capacity of about 1,300 MW.

China Three Gorges Project Corporation (CTGPC) is building the world's largest hydropower project -- the Three Gorges on the Yangtze River. Located near the Xilingxia gorge, a 185-meter-high project dam controls a drainage area of 1 million square km and an average annual runoff of 451 billion cubic meters. Construction on the massive project broke ground in 1994 and is expected to formally wrap up in late 2008. Subsidiary China Yangtze Power was set up in 2002 to manage two power plants, Gezhouba and Three Gorges. In 2009, in a major cash infusion, this unit paid its parent for the remaining 18 generators at the Three Gorges project.

China Yangtze Power co. (CYPC) generates hydropower on the Yangtze River from its two hydropower plants -- The Three Gorges Power Plant and Gezhouba Power Plant. CYPC oversees China's Three Gorges Dam project (the world's largest hydroelectric dam) on behalf of China Yangtze Three Gorges Development, which holds more than 60% of CYPC. In addition the company also provides production technology consultancy, water electric construction support, and repair and maintenance services. It also manages and invests in other power projects. CYPC manages a generating capacity of about 12,600 MW. The company was founded in 2002.

Deriving its name from an old Eskimo tribal word, Chugach Electric Association generates, transmits, distributes, and sells electricity in Alaska's railbelt region. This area extends from the coastal Chugach Mountains into central Alaska and includes the state's two largest cities (Anchorage and Fairbanks). The member-owned cooperative utility has 530 MW of generating capacity from its natural gas-fired and hydroelectric power plants. Serving 80,300 metered retail locations, Chugach Electric, the largest electric utility in Alaska, also sells wholesale power to other municipal and cooperative utilities in the region.

Huntsville Utilities buys electricity from the Tennessee Valley Authority. The utility's gas comes from Gulf of Mexico suppliers, and its water is pumped from underground aquifers and the Tennessee River.
