Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited is one of China's biggest banks and one of the largest in the world. ICBC, which went public in 2006 in a record-setting IPO, manages around 17,000 domestic branches and more than 160 overseas branches and offices. The bank's financial services, offered in Chinese renminbi and foreign currencies, include wholesale, retail, and international banking for more than 3 million corporate clients and some 190 million individuals. It oversees about a quarter of the total domestic assets owned by China's commercial banks. The Chinese government controls more than half of ICBC.

Founded in 1988, Industrial Bank is one of China's first joint stock commercial banks. Through some 40 branches and more than 400 sub-branches across China, Industrial Bank offers standard deposit, loan, wealth management, credit card, and e-banking products and services to personal and commercial banking customers. Fujian Finance Department, a government institution, controls about a quarter of Industrial Bank, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Bank and Singapore's Tetrad Ventures together own about a fifth.

A state-owned organization, IDBI provides corporate clients funding for expansion, modernization, and diversification of their businesses--including equipment financing, asset credit, corporate loan, and working capital loans. IDBI operates through several subsidiaries: IDBI Bank, IDBI Capital Market Services (financial services), IDBI Intech (information technology), IDBI Gilts Ltd. (bond trading), and IDBI Homefinance (housing financing). Its banking unit also offers traditional deposit and loan services to consumers through a network of more than 680 branches, 450 banking centers, and 1,140 ATMs.

Intesa Sanpaolo is the result of the mega-merger of the former Banca Intesa and Sanpaolo IMI, which joined forces at the beginning of 2007. The combined institution provides retail and commercial banking services through its Banca dei Territori division. The company operates from approximately 6,300 branches throughout Italy, plus more than 1,900 locations in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as the Mediterranean basin. Intesa Sanpaolo also performs investment banking, public and infrastructure finance, factoring, and trade financing services. The company's Eurizon Financial Group unit includes life insurer Eurizon Vita, asset manager Eurizon Capital, and financial planner Banca Fideuram.

Itaúsa is an umbrella organization for financial services, real estate, building products, chemicals and electronics, and IT firms. The company's financial services arm its largest sector includes Itaú Unibanco, one of Brazil's largest banks. The bank operates more than branches 3,700 branches in Brazil and also has a presence in major markets in Europe, Asia, the US, and elsewhere in Latin America. Itaúsa's other operations include Duratex, which makes medium-density fiberboard and ceramic and metal bathroom fixtures; high-tech company Itautec; and chemical company Elekeiroz. Members of the Egydio de Souza Aranha family own a controlling stake in the company.
