Fletcher Allen Health Care operates an academic medical center in alliance with the University of Vermont College of Medicine. The integrated health system (formed in the 1995 merger of Fanny Allen Hospital, Medical Center Hospital of Vermont, and University Health Center) serves residents of Vermont and northern New York through some 35 patient care sites and 100 outreach clinics. Its three primary hospital campuses have a combined 560-bed capacity and a medical staff of some 800 health care providers representing medical specializations including emergency/trauma care, pediatrics, and women's health. The health care system receives some 54,000 emergency visits each year.
