Canongate Books

Canongate Books

Canongate Books had a troubled past, going into receivership twice since its 1973 founding; publisher Jamie Byng led a rescue acquisition of the company in 1994. Canongate Books has offices in Scotland and the UK. The Life of Pi helped breathe new life into Canongate Books. The small independent publisher scored big with Yann Martel's fantastical tale of a shipwreck survivor, which won the Booker Prize in 2002. Canongate Books has racked up several successes since then, including publishing 2003 Booker Prize winner Vernon God Little, by DBC Pierre, and winning the UK Publisher of the Year title in 2003 and the Queen's Award for enterprise in 2005.
