Omaha World-Herald Company

Founded in 1885 by Gilbert M. Hitchcock, the Omaha World-Herald provides news, commentary, information and advertising that encourages readers to become involved in the world around them. The World-Herald is a statewide Nebraska newspaper, and delivers to more readers in southwest Iowa than any other Iowa newspaper.n 1963, Peter Kiewit purchased The World-Herald to ensure the paper would continue to be locally owned. In his will, Kiewit provided for the newspaper to be sold to its employees, and it has been employee-owned since 1979. The World-Herald is the largest employee-owned daily newspaper in the United States.

The Omaha World-Herald has had only six publishers in its history: Gilbert M. Hitchcock (1885-1934); Henry Doorly (1934-1955); Walter E. Christenson (1955-1966); Harold W. Andersen (1966-1989); John Gottschalk (1989 - 2007); Terry Kroeger (since 2008).
