Carlisle Interconnect Technologies

Carlisle Interconnect Technologies Company is one of the world's leading designers and manufacturers of high performance wire and cable, RF/microwave connectors and cable assemblies. Our products are targeted at applications in the aerospace, defense electronics, wireless infrastructure, optical telecommunications, and test and measurement industries.Carlisle Interconnect Technologies started operations in Tarrytown, New York in 1940 as Tensolite. Tensolite is a trademark that stands for the finest in miniature insulated wire and cable. A trademark coined from the properties built into all Carlisle Interconnect Technologies wire and cable products; high tensile strength and compact lightweight performance. Tensile + Lightweight = "Tensolite".

The first insulated wire product produced by Carlisle company was used to electrically heat the gloves and flights suits of World War II Air Force pilots. Carlisle Interconnect Technologies was an early pioneer in the application of insulation to miniature wire. We were one of the first to apply a unique material called PTFE to produce high temperature wire and cable. Carlisle Interconnect Technologies became known early in its existence as a leader in the design and manufacture of high temperature, high performance wire and cable. In 1960, Carlisle Interconnect Technologies (then Tensolite) became part of the Carlisle group of companies. In 1967, Carlisle Companies was the best performing stock on the New York Stock Exchange and Carlisle Interconnect Technologies was touted as one of the jewels of the Carlisle portfolio of companies. Carlisle Interconnect Technologies continues to enjoy the support of Carlisle today, which provides the financial strength and resources to allow us to explore emerging technologies and new opportunities as they come to light.

Carlisle Interconnect Technologies has always focused on being a technical leader and has had many firsts within the industry. Carlisle company started out as one of the first manufacturers of miniature wire and cable, and was the first to extrude PTFE on to a wire in 1951. As technology progressed, so did Carlisle Interconnect Technologies. In 1962, we became the first company to develop a process to wrap polyimide tapes on wire to produce a tougher, lighter airframe wire. In 1985, Carlisle Interconnect Technologies developed a unique process to extrude and expand PTFE in a continuous process. This led to a patented high-speed wire and cable product line that is a foundation of our technology today. In 1988 we developed the first arc track resistant airframe wire and called it Tufflite™ 2000. This product is quickly becoming the defacto standard in the aerospace industry today.
