Aluminum Corporation of China was founded in 2001 and is based in Beijing, China. Aluminum Corporation of China Limited (Chalco) is an aluminum producer with operations in bauxite mining, alumina refining, primary aluminum smelting and aluminum fabrication. It also provides ancillary products and services derived from or related to its aluminum operations. In addition, it also produces and sells alumina chemical products (alumina hydrate and alumina-based industrial chemical products), carbon products (carbon anodes and cathodes) and gallium. The Company’s three principal products include alumina, primary aluminum and aluminum fabrication products. During the year ended December 31, 2009, alumina, primary aluminum and aluminum fabrication segments accounted for approximately 15.9%, 66% and 12.8%, respectively, of its total revenue. The Company’s immediate and ultimate holding company is Aluminum Corporation of China (Chinalco). On October 29, 2009, Chalco acquired three companies and a limestone mining business from two subsidiaries of Chinalco.

Century Aluminum Co. which is owned by Koch Enterprises, first began operating in 1996. Century Aluminum Company (Century) is engaged in producing aluminum. The primary aluminum capacity includes the facility in Grundartangi, Iceland with capacity of 260,000 metric tons per year (mtpy), the facility in Hawesville, Kentucky (Hawesville) with capacity of 244,000 mtpy; a facility in Ravenswood, West Virginia (Ravenswood), currently curtailed, with capacity of 170,000 mtpy; and a 49.7% interest in a facility in Mt. Holly, South Carolina (Mt. Holly), which provides with capacity of 111,000 mtpy. In addition to the primary aluminum assets, the Company also have a 40% stake in Baise Haohai Carbon Co., Ltd. (BHH), a carbon anode and cathode facility located in the People’s Republic of China. In March 2009, Century curtailed one potline at the Hawesville facility. It is operating four potlines with a capacity of 195,000 mtpy. In February 2009, the Company curtailed all the operations at the Ravenswood facility.

When the aluminum century rolls around, it'll be ready. Century Aluminum makes primary molten and ingot aluminum at facilities in Kentucky and West Virginia, as well as in Iceland; that last facility is operated by subsidiary Nordural. Century Aluminum also owns just less than 50% of an aluminum production facility in South Carolina (Alcoa owns the rest). Four customers -- aluminum producer Rio Tinto Alcan, diversified metals company BHP Billiton, commodities trader Glencore International, and wire and cable maker Southwire -- account for about three-quarters of Century Aluminum's sales. Glencore is Century Aluminum's former parent, though it still has a 38% stake in the company.

CITIC Resources invests in energy and minerals exploration, development, and trading, focusing on oil exploration in mainland China, Indonesia, and Kazakhstan. The company was formerly engaged in the manufacturing and distribution of plywood but switched gears in 2004, the same year that China-owned investment group CITIC took a controlling stake. Since then it has built up an international portfolio of holdings including interests in Portland Aluminum Smelter (one of the largest in the world), the Coppabella and Moorvale coal mines in Queensland, and commodities trader CITIC Australia Trading. CITIC Group indirectly owns 54% of CITIC Resources.
