Qmedtrix Systems, Inc.

Merrit Quarum, M.D. formed Qmedtrix in 1996 with a vision of offering payers a methodology of determining accurate and reasonable payments for medical services. To this end, Qmedtrix developed an algorithm-based rules engine to identify inappropriate charges and abusive billing patterns, and paired it with a substantial and continuously updated medical bill database. Since its inception, Qmedtrix’s objective has been to reform health care by targeting inappropriate and abusive and fraudulent medical billing practices. Today, the Qmedtrix methodology has been successfully used and defended in jurisdictions across the country.

Qmedtrix set important case precedent in California, a state with one of the highest levels of overcharging and abusive medical billing practices. The Kunz v. Patterson Floor Coverings case upheld every aspect of Qmedtrix’s methodology, and in payment disputes that have followed, California workers’ compensation judges have routinely upheld our methodology as the accepted means to compute accurate and reasonable medical reimbursement. In 2006, Florida appellate judges validated Qmedtrix’s methodology in One Beacon Insurance vs. Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), a judge in Arizona followed suit in 2008 with the Canyon Surgery Centers v. SCF Arizona ruling.
