CCR was founded in 1966 by civil rights attorneys Morton Stavis, Arthur Kinoy, Ben Smith, and Willaim Kunstler.

The Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) puts children first. The not-for-profit group helps at-risk children and their families. Child Welfare League of America 800 member agencies provide services in adolescent parenting and pregnancy prevention, child day care, child abuse prevention and treatment, and adoption to nearly 9 million children and their families each year.
