Singapore and more. Singapore Petroleum Company (SPC) refines and sells oil and petroleum products, both in Singapore and across Asia. A 50%-owner of the Singapore Refining Company (Chevron owns the other half), SPC converts crude products into fuels. It processes 51.5 million barrels of crude per year. The company is also engaged in oil storge and terminalling. SPC' also manages a network of 38 gas stations in Singapore. By revamping, all products meet the latest national standards and some products can be supplied to Beijing market. The products are becoming more and more competitive.

SK Energy (formerly SK Corp.) is the energy and chemical affiliate of South Korea's SK Group, which also operates trading and telecommunications units. Korea's largest oil refiner (1.1 million barrels of daily refining capacity), SK Energy controls about 35% of Korea's fuel retailing market and operates 4,270 service stations. The firm is involved in oil exploration and production in 15 countries and has proved reserves 500 million barrels of oil equivalent. SK Energy imports coal and liquid petroleum gas (LPG), and claims a 44% share of the Korean LPG market. SK Energy supplies natural gas to Seoul and other cities in Korea. The company also makes lubricants, low-pollutant gasoline, and petrochemicals.

SK Group, one of South Korea's top five "chaebol" (industrial conglomerates), covers a broad spectrum of businesses through its affiliates. The company has about 40 affiliated companies, with operations ranging from energy, telecommunications, finance, and construction. Its energy and chemical arm, SK Energy, is Korea's largest petroleum refiner. Like other "chaebol" under government orders to reorganize in the wake of the Korean financial collapse of the late-1990s, SK Group has pared down its affiliates. The slimmer SK Group is focusing on three core businesses: information and telecommunications (through SK Telecom), energy and chemicals (through SK Energy), and trading and services (SK Networks).
