Kandla Special Economic Zone (KASEZ)is Asia's first and India's largest multi-product Special Economic Zone.KASEZ the most spacious of all the special Economic Zone Export Processing zones of India, is ideal location for setting up export oriented activities for manufacture of goods for exports and trading activities.

This Zone was converted into a Special Economic Zone on 1.1.2003.The added objective of the SEZ is to facilitate exports through reduction of transaction costs. To this effect, the Ministry of Commerce and Industries has introduced special features that include Offshore Banking Units and Container Freight Stations to be set up within the Zone, besides liberalised Customs procedures.It is expected that the cost,time and effort saved would translate to higher exports from the Zone.

The Mahindra Group will be setting up a sector-specific Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for biotechnology, at Thane, near Mumbai. The project will involve an investment of Rs. 150 crore.The SEZ will have world class facilities on a par with those available at Mahindra World City SEZ in Chennai.

Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone (SEZ), promoted by the Adani Group, is located in Kutch District, Gujarat and is the largest SEZ of India. Spread over an area of over 100 sq km, Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone is a multi-product and large format private SEZ approved by the Government of India.

The Union government policy on SEZ, came into effect from 1st April 2000. It is the latest and best thinking so far on India's export policy and may even represent the future of industrial development strategy. SEZs need to be seen in the context of attempts by the Government of India, to launch second-generation reforms and also a continuation of earlier initiatives to boost exports: Export Processing Zone, Export Oriented Units, Software Technology Parks, Export Oriented Hardware Technology Park, Export Promotion Capital Goods Policy, Advance licensing and deemed exports policy, Free Trade Zone Policy.
