Environment Protection Training & Research Institute (EPTRI) was set up as an independent registered society in 1992 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh with the assistance of the Government of India, Government of India also facilitated the bilateral assistance for technical collaboration between EPTRI and Swedish International Development Agency.

The Academy, founded in 1934, aims at promoting the progress and upholding the cause of science in pure and applied branches. The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development has been set up as an autonomous Institute of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The Institute was registered as a society under the Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989 (Manipur Act of 1999) on 26th April 2001. The Institute was established in pursuance of the decision of the Government of India to conserve the rich bioresources of the Indo-Burma region and sustainable utilization of the resources.
