IOCL to use treated water from STP in Mathura refinery

National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has signed an MoU with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) as per which IOCL will use treated water from a new sewage treatment plant (STP) in its Mathura refinery.

The construction work for the new STP in Mathura began on August 17, 2016. The treated water from this STP will be used by industries in the neighbouring areas. The 20 million litre per day (MLD) STP in Vrindavan will be built at a cost of Rs 40 crore.

A nine kilometer pipeline from Laxmi Nagar to Gokul barrage will be built to carry the treated water to IOCL’s Mathura refinery.

Uma Bharti has said that a new beginning has been made with the foundation laying of STP in Mathura which will provide treated water for industrial use.

According to Uma Bharti, Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, every effort will be made to stop the flow of polluted water of Yamuna from Delhi to Mathura-Vrindavan, “With the adoption of hybrid annuity mode by NMCG the complexion of Yamuna will change completely in Mathura-Vrindavan by 2018. We would be able to save about 60 percent water of Ganga and Yamuna, which will help to maintain good e-flow of water in these rivers, with the use of pressure technology in irrigation,” she said.
