Daimler launches Mercedez-Benz Super High Deck coach

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. (DICV), a 100 per cent Indian subsidiary Daimler AG, today announced the start of sales of the Mercedes-Benz coach - the Super High Deck SHD 2436. First set of buses was handed over to a customer in Chennai.
The luxury coach is manufactured out of its plant in Oragadam. The seating capacity of upto 61 pushback seats and 14 cubic meters, the bus was built with an aluminique body, this coach is the lightest in its class offering ultra -fuel efficiency, company said in a release.
The bus was handed over to owner of KPN Travels at the DICV Bus plant in Chennai. KPN Travels is one of the largest luxury coach operators in South India with a fleet size of over 330 intercity buses.
Markus Villinger, managing director, Daimler Buses India said, "this product, being the longest coach in the country built with strong features, is sure to set benchmarks in ultra-luxury travel".
The Mercedes-Benz SHD 2436 has an active steerable tag axle that results in low turning circle diameter to effortlessly navigate sharp turns and bends. It also has an advanced braking system and a strategically positioned fuel tank for added safety, said the company.
With an investment of Rs 425 crore, the bus plant at Oragadam, near Chennai produces BharatBenz and Mercedes-Benz buses and houses Wrightbus, an Ireland based body manufacturer within its premises.
The bus plant manufactures buses with gross vehicle weight of 9, 16 and above 16 ton range. The plant has a capacity of 1,500 units per year scalable to 4,000 units.
BharatBenz network of over 80 dealerships - ramped up to offer tailor-made service packages and 24X7 after- sales support for new Mercedes-Benz coach. BharatBenz sales is backed by BharatBenz Financial, a captive financing unit that offers full coverage vehicle Insurance, offers cashless facility including zero depreciation and full maintenance contracts.

The Enforcement Directorate on Monday claimed to have recovered a huge amount of "unaccounted" cash during searches of premises allegedly linked to an aide of a state minister, official sources said.

Australia's Qantas Airways agreed to pay A$120 million ($79 million) to settle a regulator lawsuit over the sale of thousands of tickets on already cancelled flights, in an attempt to end a reputational crisis that has engulfed the airline.
The company will split A$20 million between more than 86,000 customers who booked tickets on the so-called "ghost flights" and pay a A$100 million fine instead of defending the lawsuit that it had previously vowed to fight, Qantas and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) said on Monday.

Billionaire investor Warren Buffett said that the Indian market has unexplored opportunities which his conglomerate holding company, Berkshire Hathaway, would like to explore in the future".
Buffett's remarks came at Berkshire's annual meeting on Friday when Rajeev Agarwal of DoorDarshi Advisors, a US-based hedge fund that invests in Indian equities, asked him about the possibility of Berkshire exploring in India, the world's fifth-largest economy.
