J&K: Two terrorists gunned down by security forces in Kulgam

In one more successful anti-terror operation, the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) police said that two terrorists have been killed in an encounter that broke between security forces and terrorists in the Nipora area of the Kulgam district in south Kashmir, earlier in the morning.

"#NiporaKulgamEncounterUpdate: 02 unidentified #terrorists killed. Search going on. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice” Kashmir zone police tweeted.

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar had earlier said “Encounter Started at the Nipora area of Kulgam. Police and security forces are on the job.”

An official said, “A joint team of J&K Police, the Indian Army's 19 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a search-and-cordon operation on specific information about the presence of terrorists in the area."

As the joint team of forces cordoned the suspected house, the hiding terrorists who were trapped in that residential house fired upon the search party, that was retaliated and the encounter started. The official added that earlier hiding terrorists were given the full chance to surrender but they fired bullets.

It’s the fourth encounter in south Kashmir this week. Earlier, 14 terrorists including top Hizb commanders were killed in three separate encounters in the Shopian district. In the last week, security forces have killed 16 terrorists taking the toll to 95 this year.
