Donald Trump to join PM Modi at 'Howdy, Modi' event in Houston, confirms White House

US President Donald Trump will join Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the mega "Howdy, Modi!" event which will take place in Houston next week, confirmed the White House on Sunday.
"On Sunday, September 22, 2019, President Donald J. Trump will travel to Houston, Texas, and Wapakoneta, Ohio, to underscore the important partnerships between the United States and India, and Australia. In Houston, President Trump will participate in an event with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India," said White House Press Secretary, in a statement.
"The event, "Howdy, Modi! Shared Dreams, Bright Futures," is expected to draw tens of thousands of people", it added.
Moreover, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, the second-highest-ranking Democrat, is also going to address the gathering. This also reflects the strong bipartisan support for the relationship between the two countries.
Over 50,000 people have registered for the event at the NRG Stadium in Houston which is being hosted by the Texas India Forum. The summit, with the theme of "Shared Dreams, Bright Futures" will highlight the contributions of Indian-Americans in enriching the American life for the last seven decades as well as the key role they have played in strengthening relations between the two nations.
Terming the development "historic" and "unprecedented", Indian Ambassador to US Harshvardhan Shringla said that it represents "personal chemistry and friendship" between the two leaders.
"The two leaders addressing the 'Howdy, Modi!' event is historic and unprecedented. It reflects not only the closeness and comfort levels in the relationship but also the personal chemistry and friendship between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump," Shringla told ANI.

Actor Mahesh Babu has been served legal notices by the Ranga Reddy District Consumer Commission in Telangana over his endorsement of real estate firm Sai Surya Developers, Deccan Chronicle reported.

The Indian Rupee slipped as renewed pressures hit the currency after US President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 10 per cent tariff on countries aligning with Brics policies.
The domestic currency closed 47 paise lower at 85.86 against the dollar on Monday, the worst fall since June 13, according to Bloomberg. In intraday, the currency fell past the 86 mark, and pared losses on likely Reserve Bank of India (RBI) intervention.

Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey on Monday said that the markets regulator is upgrading its surveillance to examine cases of derivatives manipulation. His remark comes days after Sebi found New York-based hedge fund Jane Street was manipulating stock indexes.
"There may not be many more such cases," said Pandey, as quoted by news agency Reuters.

French IT services giant Capgemini announced on Monday that it will acquire India-based outsourcing firm WNS in an all-cash deal worth $3.3 billion, news agency Reuters reported. The move is aimed at helping Capgemini capitalise on its Agentic AI (AI systems designed to operate autonomously), helping clients modernise their business operations.
Capgemini will pay $76.50 per WNS share, which is 17 per cent higher than the closing price on July 3, excluding WNS’s existing debt, the report said.
