Jayalalithaa's bail plea: HC adjourns hearing to Oct 6

The Karnataka High Court today adjourned J Jayalalithaa's bail plea hearing to October 6, 2014.

The order means that the former TN chief minister will have to stay in jail for at least a week.

The Court adjourned the case due to confusion in the appointment of a public prosecutor.

Appearing for Jayalalithaa, eminent lawyer Ram Jethmalani argued that bail could be granted to Jayalalithaa as her sentence is just for four years.

However, the court, presided by vacation bench judge Ratnakala, adjourned the case due to the absence of a public prosecutor.

Jayalalithaa has been lodged in the central jail here since September 27 after a special court sentenced her to four years in prison in a disproportionate assets case. She was convicted by the court along with three others the case.
