Rupee down 11 paise against dollar in early trade on September 2

Falling for the fourth straight day, the rupee today weakened by another 11 paise to 60.64 against the US currency in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market due to dollar's gains against other rivals overseas.

Forex dealers said besides dollar's gains against other currencies, increased demand for the American unit from importers put pressure on the rupee, but a higher opening in the domestic equity market limited the losses. The domestic currency had lost three paise to close at 60.53 against the US currency in yesterday's trade, following sustained dollar demand from importers amid firm cues from overseas.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex gained 81.53 points, or 0.30%, to trade at new life-time high of 26,949.08 in early trade today.
