A 23-year-old female physiotherapy intern, Jyoti Singh (Nirbhaya), was beaten, gang-raped, and tortured in a private bus in which she was travelling with her friend. The nature of the rape was extremely brutal.

With the national case count topping 16.3 million, the death toll across the US rose to 300,267 as of Monday afternoon, according to the CSSE data, Xinhua news agency reported.
