WHO recommends broad use of world's first malaria vaccine

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday that it has recommended widespread use of the world's first malaria vaccine called RTS,S/AS01 (RTS,S) for children in sub-Saharan Africa.

According to the WHO, the vaccine is the result of 30 years of research and development by British pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in partnership with the international non-profit organization Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH) and with a network of research centers in Africa.

The Supreme Court has decided to hear on Thursday the Lakhimpur Kheri case of Uttar Pradesh in which eight people, including four farmers, were killed as violence erupted during a farmers’ protest.

According to the cause list uploaded on the apex court website, a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice N V Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli would hear the matter.

Dallas-based 7-Eleven Inc (SEI) has signed an agreement with Reliance Retail Ventures (RRV) to launch convenience stores in India, days after Future Retail Ltd ended its deal with the US chain.

The first 7-Eleven store will open on Saturday in Andheri, Mumbai. RRV said in a statement. It will then roll out more stores in neighbourhoods and commercial areas in the Greater Mumbai.

In the past one month, SBI has outperformed the market and is up 9 per cent, as compared to a 2.8 per cent rise in the S&P BSE Sensex.
