Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Wednesday that the North East has become a "powerhouse of India's growth" under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.

Addressing a press conference, the former Assam chief minister said Modi has delivered more than his guarantees for the region during his over nine years at the helm during which "peace and security" have been restored in the region which faced decades of "neglect" under the Congress' rule.

Aditya Birla Group’s Hindalco Industries said on Tuesday it will invest Rs 800 crore to set up a battery aluminium foil plant in Odisha as it evaluates opportunities in the electric mobility value chain.

The 25,000-tonne plant will be commissioned by July 2025. “The company is investing Rs 800 crore to build a new plant near Sambalpur in Odisha that will initially produce 25,000 tonnes of the resilient product which forms the backbone of Lithium-ion and Sodium-ion cells,” said the company in a statement.

The price of 24-carat gold fell Rs 220 during early trade on Wednesday, with ten grams of the precious metal selling at Rs 61,910, according to the GoodReturns website. The price of silver also dropped Rs 100, with one kilogram of the precious metal selling at Rs 75,700.

The price of 22-carat gold was down by Rs 200, with the yellow metal selling at Rs 56,750.

Shares of Laurus Labs slipped 4 per cent to Rs 373.15 on the BSE in Wednesday’s intra-day trade after the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) issued Form 483 with five observations to the company’s arm Laurus Synthesis Private Limited (LSPL) for its manufacturing facility in Parawada, Anakapalli, near Visakhapatnam.

In an exchange filing, the company said LSPL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Laurus Labs underwent USFDA inspection for the manufacturing facility in Parawada, Anakapalli, near Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

Students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will face a penalty of Rs 20,000 if they are found protesting or resorting to violence around the home of members of the institution or within a 100-metre radius of any academic and administrative buildings.

The directive is part of a chief proctor office manual that listed the “rules of discipline and proper conduct of students of Jawaharlal Nehru University” and was approved by the Executive Council of the university on November 24.

Hindalco Industries on Tuesday announced that it is investing Rs 800 crore to set up a 25,000-tonne battery foil facility in Odisha near Sambalpur. The plant, which will produce fine-quality aluminium foil that is used in rechargeable batteries, will be commissioned by July 2025.

In an announcement, the company said that it has already achieved the technology breakthrough of manufacturing battery foils at its Mouda unit in Maharashtra.

BBC World Service India is undergoing a shareholding restructuring, with the British Broadcasting Corp (BBC) aiming to comply with the Indian government's foreign direct investment (FDI) guidelines, according to a report by The Economic Times (ET). The FDI norms limit foreign holdings in digital news entities to 26 per cent, prompting BBC World Service India to explore options for adhering to these regulations as currently 99.99 per cent owned by the BBC.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) had capped FDI in digital news at 26 per cent in September 2019.
