ONGC to invest Rs 5,000 cr in CBM blocks; drops plan to get partners

After failing to get private partners to develop four of its coal bed methane (CBM) blocks twice, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation has now decided to go ahead and explore these blocks on its own at an invetsment of Rs 5,000 crore.

D K Sarraf, chairman and managing director ONGC said, "We have decided to expedite development in our CBM blocks. CBM does not require much of technology or expert knowledge. Since we were in this business, our team is familiar with the exploration plans."

"Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has bagged a contract for supply and installation of a PCP package for Barh Super Thermal Power Project (STPP), stage-I (3x660 MW), of NTPC," BHEL said in a press release.

Fares for first class and AC class in passenger trains besides freight charges will be increased by 0.5% from June 1 as new service tax will come into effect.

"Currently, 3.708 per cent service tax is levied on train fares for AC Class, First Class and freight. This will go up to 4.2% from June which means the rise is only 0.5%," said a senior Railway Ministry official.

TOI has received several phone calls from netizens from as far-off places as Kurnool with the callers seeking to know the reasons for the RBI's striking departure from the Gandhian legacy in printing and circulation of the currency notes.
