Bajaj Auto sales down 5% in August

Bajaj Auto on Friday reported a five per cent decline in its total sales at 3,25,347 units in August as against 3,41,965 in the same month a year ago.

Motorcycle sales during the month fell by four per cent to 2,79,911 units as against 2,90,436 units in August last year, the company said in a BSE filing.

Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on Friday said its construction arm has bagged orders worth Rs 1,458 crore across business verticals.

"The construction arm of L&T has won orders worth Rs 1,458 crore across its various business segments," the company said in a BSE filing.

State-run BHEL on Friday said it has commissioned the fourth and last unit of the 4x40 MW Teesta Low Dam Hydro Electric Project (HEP) Stage-IV in West Bengal.

A run-of-the-river greenfield project located in Darjeeling district of West Bengal, Teesta HEP has been set up by NHPC Ltd, on the River Teesta, BHEL said in a release.

NTPC unit's non-payment notice to Delhi discoms

Aravali Power Company Pvt Ltd (APCPL) located in the Jhajjar district of Haryana, owned and operated by NTPC, has issued a notice to Reliance Infrastructure's distribution companies (discoms) in New Delhi for non-payment of dues. It has threatened to cut off 445 mega watts (Mw) of power supply if the payment is not made before the coming Monday.

The notice said BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Ltd (BYPL) have been irregular in payment of their energy bills to NTPC. The total amount owed is Rs 961 crore — Rs 695 crore & Rs 266 crore by BRPL and BYPL, respectively.

Healthcare major Apollo Hospitals Enterprise on Thursday reported a 17.52 per cent decline in standalone net profit to Rs 72.17 crore for the first quarter ended June 30.

The company had posted a net profit of Rs 87.51 crore during April-June quarter of the previous fiscal, Apollo Hospitals said in a BSE filing.

MUMBAI: The benchmark BSE Sensex spurted over 66 points to 28,518.53 and NSE Nifty reclaimed the 8,800-mark in early trade on Thursday on continued buying by foreign funds and retail investors even as economic growth slowed to 7.1 per cent in the April-June quarter.

The 30-share index, which had gained 669.92 points in the previous three sessions, was up by 66.36 points, or 0.23 per cent, to 28,518.53 with the sectoral indices led by auto, FMCG and banking were trading in positive zone.

Hinduja Group flagship Ashok Leyland today reported a 6 per cent decline in total sales at 10,897 units in August 2016.

The company had sold 11,544 units in August last year. Sales of heavy and medium commercial vehicles declined by 8 per cent to 8,201 units last month as against 8,903 units in the year-ago period, the company said in a statement.
