The benchmark Sensex tumbled 333 points, or 0.9 per cent, on Monday — its biggest drop in a month — following a sharp sell-off in Hindustan Unilever (HUL) and ITC.

The 30-share index closed at 38,312, while the Nifty 50 closed at 11,582.35, down 98 points or 0.84 per cent. In the previous trading session, the indices clocked their sixth straight week of gains, during which they rallied six per cent.

The Wipro stock gained as much as 8.5 per cent intra-day on Monday, its highest such gain in five years. This was after the company announced on Sunday that it had bagged its largest order, worth $1.5 billion (Rs 106 billion) from US-based Alight Solutions. The 10-year order would translate to an incremental $150 million (Rs 10.6 billion) annually over the contract period. This is two per cent of the current revenue.

New Delhi: Auto major Mahindra & Mahindra reported Saturday 14 per cent increase in total sales at 48,324 units in August.

The company had sold 42,207 units in the same month last year, M&M said in a statement. In the domestic market, sales were at 45,373 units last month, up 15 per cent, as compared to 39,615 units in August 2017.

India's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India has registered a total domestic sales of 145,895 units in the month of August 2018 and has seen a decline in sales by 3.6% as compared to the same month last year. Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) is planning to raise $500 million in medium-term bonds for its expansion projects in the January-March quarter of 2019, a senior company official said.

J Ramaswamy, director, finance, HPCL, told FE, “The company will start the prepartory work by November-December and will hit the market in the January-March quarter. The tenure of the bond will depend on the inflows from the expansion projects, which will start from July onwards.”

The Telecom Commission (TC) on Friday accepted the recommendations of the Trai on network testing before commercial launch by operators, but capped the testing period outside the company to 180 days.
