Aiming to revive loss-making telecom companies BSNL and MTNL, the telecom ministry has proposed a plan comprising an early retirement of staff, capital infusion and monetisation of assets to keep them afloat in a highly competitive market.

An in-principle approval for a potential merger of the two state-run companies is also part of the proposals, according to a senior official from the ministry.

In a statement issued here, the company said: "There is no proposal to close down BSNL as wrongly reported in a section of the press.

New Delhi: Unclaimed deposits in the banking system have witnessed a jump of 26.8 per cent to ₹14,578 crore in 2018, Parliament was informed on Monday.

The unclaimed deposits rose to ₹11,494 crore in 2017 from ₹8,928 crore in 2016, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

New Delhi: Popular e-ticketing website, RailYatri, has now been authorised by the IRCTC to continue its ticket booking services, months after the Delhi High Court termed the services "unauthorised".

State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has discovered over 230 million tonnes of in-place oil reserves in the last three years, Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said Monday. In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, he said India’s top oil and gas producer ONGC as on April 1, 2019, has in place oil reserves of 459.84 million tonnes.

These reserves are spread over 16 assets it currently extracts oil from, he said.

Mumbai: Domestic equity benchmarks BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty started on a choppy note Tuesday, tracking weak cues from global equities amid concerns of a global economic slowdown.

The 30-share index was trading 23.52 points, or 0.06 per cent, higher at 39,710.02 at 0930 hours. Similarly, the broader Nifty was quoting 8.70 points, or 0.07 per cent, up at 11,874.30.
