The Department of telecommunications (DoT) is working on a proposal for allocation of spectrum in the 2100 MHz band for launching 4G services to state-run operators BSNL and MTNL, and a final decision on the same is expected by year-end. “We have set up an internal committee in DoT which is working on BSNL and MTNL’s proposals for launching 4G services.

BSNL has extended its Monsoon Offer validity to provide the complimentary benefits to the customers for a longer period. The state-owned telecom company introduced the offer back in June after Jio came with its Monsoon Double Dhamaka Offer. The BSNL Monsoon Offer entitles the customers who have bought select plans with 2GB additional data per day on top of the allotted data.

New Delhi: The Department of Telecom (DoT) is “forcibly” taking over the land and building assets of BSNL under a Presidential directive, employees union of the state-owned telco has alleged.

Seeking the intervention of the Prime Minister’s Office, P Abhimanyu, general secretary of the BSNL employees union, said: “The DoT under a Presidential directive is taking away all the lands and buildings for housing its own offices.

Telecom secretary Aruna Sundararajan has directed the Universal Services Obligation Fund (USOF) to prepare a new project report based on the BSNL’s proposal for providing mobile connectivity in uncovered villages by setting up telecom towers in Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas and Meghalaya.

BSNL has now introduced a new prepaid plan for Rs 171, which will compete against Reliance Jio, Vodafone and Airtel.

The new plan will offer 60GB data, which comes up to 2GB data per day, with 30 days validity. Additionally, the plan also offers unlimited voice calls and SMS benefits.

Aiming to generate revenues from new segments, state-run telecom player BSNL is targeting Rs 650 crore from its partnerships with virtual network operators (VNOs).

BSNL has tied-up with VNOs Plintron and Aerovoyce to start the services. Besides, it has introduced the first robotic process automation in the organisation which will enable the firm to save Rs 300 crore annually.

A year since the high-profile launch of its satellite phone services, BSNL has sold 4,000 handsets, majority to government agencies, and expects the number to reach 10,000 by March 2019 riding on fresh demand from corporates and states for the premium service, its Chairman Anupam Shrivastava said.

In a bid to lure more customers and curb the onslaught by Reliance Jio, BSNL has now introduced a new recharge plan for its prepaid customers. The new BSNL STV 19 is suited for the users who make calls more than accessing data services. The BSNL STV 19 worth Rs 19 offers calls at slashed tariffs for a validity of 54 days.
