BANGALORE: India's top software services companies are investing big in Africa, eager to win customers and market share in a continent that is home to fast-growing enterprises and under-developed technology infrastructure. Lured by the growth potential of African economies and their burgeoning interest in technology, companies such as Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys and Wipro are fast expanding their employee base and delivery centres in a market that was earlier viewed as a low-cost , near-shore delivery location to serve large outsourcing customers in Europe and West Asia.

BANGALORE/ MUMBAI: With European corporations emulating their American counterparts to make outsourcing mainstream , Indian software companies are tapping into a rich new vein of opportunity and are hiring and looking for acquisitions to grow in the continent.

Weighed down by IT stocks, Indian benchmark indices slipped nearly 1% on Wednesday. The Sensex ended down 184.52 points at 22,323.90, while the Nifty dropped 62.75 points to 6,652.55, their three-week and six-week lows, respectively.
