Information technology (IT) services major Infosys plans to invest Rs 1,400 crore in a campus proposed to be built on 28 acres in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

The project is estimated to generate 35,000 direct and indirect jobs.

It has been only five days since he took charge as Infosys' first non-founder chief executive but Vishal Sikka has already started experiencing the first signs of pressure - from some minority shareholders who were once key executives of the information technology services firm.

Three former senior employees of Infosys -former chief financial officers T V Mohandas Pai and V Balakrishnan and former senior vice-president D N Prahlad - have written to the company's board to "immediately" consider a buyback of shares. They believe the company must do so because there is a "dramatic valuation disconnect" between the shares of Infosys and its peers, and this needs correction.

S ‘Kris’ Gopalakrishnan, a co-founder and non-executive vice-chairman of Infosys, the information technology giant, has plans to invest in start-ups after his retirement in October. He’d possible look at those in areas such as e-retailing and digital marketing.

He’s also expanding his family office, which runs a Pratiksha Trust. According to Forbes magazine, Gopalakrishnan’s net worth is currently close to $1.5 billion (Rs 9,150 crore).

Infosys is focusing on strengthening its engagement with clients by deploying delivery side employees to sales, in what is to be one of the first measures being put in place by new chief executive Vishal Sikka. The country's second-largest software exporter, which seeks to regain the IT bellwether's tag, will deploy 150 executives with technical background currently working at the delivery side at Infosys's client locations, said a senior executive of the company.

Vishal Sikka's may be a formidable name in the global technology segment, but he isn't your average geek who has time only for technology labs and technical journals.

On his first day as Infosys managing director and chief executive, Sikka quotes Rabindranath Tagore in describing himself as a "servant leader"; calls himself a Hindi movie buff (till recently, a song from a Bollywood blockbuster was on his Twitter feed); and says he wants to write regularly, as it has a "calming influence" on him (his blog, Timelessness, deals with his childhood memories, Diwali in Delhi, etc).

Infosys’ Chief Executive Officer-designate Vishal Sikka might be new to Indian information-technology (IT) services business, but his past credentials were enough for the company’s shareholders to offer him a warm welcome at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) that was called to seek approval for his appointment, among other things.

The Falta Special Economic Zone (SEZ) has allowed IT major Infosys to set up a unit in the IT SEZ proposed within Info-valley complex planned in about 500 acres of land on the outskirts of the city.

Infosys, India’s second-largest information technology (IT) services company, is considering strengthening its sales teams, especially in the key markets of Europe and the US. For this, the company is planning to hire locals in these geographies. It is also deploying employees with strong domain knowledge to the sales segment.

Infosys, which has said it will hire 22,000 graduates this financial year, plans to recruit about 300 freshers from business schools in the US and Europe to boost its sales teams there, chief operating officer U B Pravin Rao has said.

The benchmark indices have erased some of its early gains with IT major Infosys and Tata Motors contributing nearly 36 points to the decline.

The barometer index, Sensex is up 123 points at 25,765 and Nifty is up 34 points at 7,698 levels.

Mumbai: The 30-share bellwether BSE Sensex on Thursday was trading 35 points higher, led by shares of consumer durables and technology companies.

At 9.41am, Sensex was trading higher by 0.15%, or 38.53 points, at 25,588.25 points, while the National Stock Exchange’s broader barometer 50-share Nifty was trading up 0.19%, or 14.40 points, at 7,638.80 points.
