Bengaluru: Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp. on Friday reported a sequential decline in revenue in the quarter to March marking the Nasdaq-listed firm’s slowest start to a calendar year since 2009.

Worryingly for investors, Cognizant slightly revised down its forecast for 2016 revenue growth, with the management now expecting full-year revenue to be between $13.65 billion and $14 billion, an increase of 10-13%, as against the earlier guidance of 10-14%.

The government has approved the proposal of Infosys to set up an IT/ITeS special economic zone in Bengaluru in an area spread over 4 hectares.

The decision was taken by an inter-ministerial Board of Approval (BoA), headed by Commerce Secretary Rita Teaotia, at its meeting on April 28. "The Board noted that the developer is in possession of the land. It decided to grant formal approval to the proposal," the minutes of the BoA meeting said.

This comes at a time when India's $160-billion IT industry faces its slowest revenue growth in nearly a decade.

According to executives familiar with these plans, Indian outsourcing firms have traditionally stayed away from large deals (over $500 million) which include the takeover of customer assets including data centres or delivery centers.

Infosys hits record high on FY17 revenue guidance

Infosys has rallied 8% to Rs 1,268, also its record high on the BSE in early morning trade after India’s second-largest information technology (IT) services firm forecast strong revenue growth of 11.5%-13.5% in consent currency (CC) in the current fiscal.

In dollar terms, the company expects revenue to grow between 11.8% and 13.8% for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, Infosys said in a statement.
