Besides, positive cues from other Asian markets also buoyed the sentiments.

Continuing yesterday's winning streak, the 30-share index rose further by 61.03 points, or 0.24 per cent, to 25,784.19, with all the sectoral indices, led by auto and banking, trading in positive zone with gains up to 0.62 per cent.

BSE Sensex rose for the first time in three sessions and closed 96 points higher to reclaim the 26,000 level today powered by gains in bluechips, led by Bharti Airtel, on encouraging quarterly earnings.

After slipping to 25,850.04 points in early trade on selling by cautious participants ahead of monthly expiry in the derivatives segment, the 30-share Sensex bounced back to close 96.19 points, or 0.37 per cent, higher at 26,087.42. Intra-day, it touched a high of 26,113.48.

BSE seeks clarification on FTIL stake sale in MCX

BSE has sought clarifications from Jignesh Shah-led Financial Technologies (FTIL) with regard to the discounted price at which it had struck a deal with Kotak Mahindra Bank for sale of 15 per cent in Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX).

On July 20, FTIL entered into a share purchase agreement with Kotak Mahindra Bank to sell its 15 per cent stake in MCX for Rs 459 crore at Rs 664 a share, a discount of 24 per cent compared to the prevailing price the previous day.

MUMBAI: The benchmark BSE Sensex declined by over 33 points in early trade today as participants indulged in reducing their positions ahead of monthly expiry in the derivatives segment.

The 30-share barometer, which had gained 96.19 points in yesterday's trade, slipped by 33.59 points, or 0.13 per cent, to 26,053.83 with IT, banking, realty, teck and power stocks leading the fall.

The 30-share barometer, which had gained 1,140.35 points in the past seven sessions, shed 25.91 points, or 0.10 per cent, to 26,121.42. The gauge had closed at a new record high of 26,147.33 yesterday.
