Baltija Shipbuilding Yard JSC

Baltija Shipbuilding Yard JSC

The "Baltija" Shipbuilding Yard was founded by the Ministry of Shipbuilding of the ex-Soviet Union in 1952 and it successfully continues a 400-year-old tradition of shipbuilding in Klaipeda. Since 1958 the "Baltija" Shipbuilding Yard has also built 65 steel floating docks which formed the main export products of the yard. They are successfully operated in Bulgaria, Cuba, Germany, Finland, Iceland, Indonesia, Mozambique, Singapore, Romania, Poland, Yugoslavia and the CIS countries.

A "new era" for "Baltija" began in April 1997, when the majority of the yard's shares was taken over by Odense Steel Shipyard Ltd, a member of the A.P. Moller Group. The new Danish partner, which at present builds post-panamax containerships for Maersk Sealand, has invested heavily in the modernization of equipment, the building of new blasting / painting halls and the establishment of a design engineering centre. This gave "Baltija" the opportunity to increase its steel construction output, and also improved its competitiveness in building the modern turn-key vessels of up to 115 x 18,2 m in size which are now in the yard product range.

Since 1997 "Baltija" has built and delivered three 58 t bollard pull Escort Azimuth Stern-Drive Tugs for the Danish towing operator A/S Em.Z. Svitzer. In 1999-2000 a series of four Stand-by Supply Vessels (two AHT and two OFT), with a bollard pull of 100 t, were delivered to the A.P. Moller Group companies Esbjerg Vagtskibsselskab A/S and Maersk Company Ltd.
