However, lawsuits from local residents have blocked the deal. Kaiser Ventures is owned mainly by former creditors of Kaiser Steel.

Engineering and consulting firm KEMRON Environmental Services provides analytical testing, consulting, emergency response, environmental assessment and engineering, geotechnical testing, and site remediation. Customers include branches of the US military and other federal agencies. Its client base also includes private sector companies ranging from small businesses to major manufacturers and FORTUNE 500 companies. KEMRON operates from offices in Georgia, Illinois, Ohio, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia. The company is owned by its employees.

A leader in the recycling of stainless steel, Keywell also recycles high-temperature alloys, titanium, and other scrap metals such as nickel, molybdenum, nickel-copper alloys and carbide, and tool steel. The company uses inbound and outbound radiation monitors, as well as X-ray analyzers, to identify the metal to be processed. Keywell, which has participated in the recycling business for more than 80 years, operates seven processing facilities in California, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. Keywell's employees and private investors own the company.
