Follett Higher Education Group, in existence for well over a century, is the leading operator of campus bookstores in the US, supplying students and faculty with textbooks and other course materials through more than 800 stores. FHEG also provides about 1,600 individually managed stores with wholesale books and related services such as point of sale management systems, buyback services, and store design and consulting services. The company is a subsidiary of educational materials wholesaler Follett Corporation.

Gameplay GB Ltd. sells new video games at discounted prices for popular platforms, such as the PC, Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii. Games from a variety of studios are distributed through Gameplay's Web site to European and other countries around the world, including Australia, Japan, and the US. In 2004 the company was acquired by THE GAME GROUP, which has become a leading software and game retailer in Europe.

HMV Group plc,the entertainment retailer sells recorded music, videos and DVDs, books, and electronic games online and through some 400 HMV stores in five countries and from about 315 Waterstone's bookshops in the UK and Ireland. HMV has been closing stores amid a prolonged slump in sales caused by upheaval in the music business. To compensate for declining retail sales, HMV is going after the live music and ticketing market through the purchase of its former joint venture partner in live music MAMA Group. Sales at the company's Waterstone's bookstore chain are also down as shoppers buy fewer books.

Hudson Group operates some 600 newsstands, bookstores, cafes, and specialty shops in about 70 airports and other transportation terminals throughout North America. The group's flagship Hudson News format is North America's only national newsstand brand. The shops offer travelers books, magazines, apparel, souvenirs, snacks, and beverages for their journey. Other formats include Hudson Booksellers, Kids Works, and Euro Cafe. Private equity firm Advent International acquired Hudson Group in 2007 and in 2008 merged it with Swiss travel retailer Dufry AG.
