Among those, 18 specialize in orthopedic conditions, some also specialize in treating serious burn injuries, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lips and palates. Founded by the fellowship Shrine of North America, the hospitals are supported by a multitude of fundraising events organized by 500,000 red fez-wearing members. As a result, these hospitals are able to treat children under 18 years old completely for free. Shriners Hospitals For Children was founded in 1922.
