TDC's international holdings include stakes in telecommunications companies in the Nordic region, but the bulk of sales are made in Denmark. The company serves 3 million customers in Switzerland (its second largest market in terms of sales) through its Sunrise Communications subsidiary. Investment group Nordic Telephone Company owns 88% of TDC; Nordic Telephone Company is a subsidiary of Luxembourg-based Angel Lux Parent.

Callers, clickers, and cable aficionados connect with Tele2. The pan-European telecommunications network operator provides fixed-line and mobile phone services, data transmission, and Internet access to nearly 30 million customers in 11 countries. Outside of Sweden, its top markets are Russia and the Netherlands, while nations in the Nordic, Baltic, and northern European regions round out Tele2's service area. Wireless services make up well over half of total sales. Other Tele2 units provide systems integration services (Datametrix) and cable television broadcasting (Kabelvision). Swedish investment group Investment AB Kinnevik owns 30% of the company and controls 48% of the voting rights.

Ericsson opens all lines of communication. The world's leading maker of mobile broadband infrastructure gear provides the equipment that telecom carriers use to build and expand networks. The company also provides wireline broadband, metro area Ethernet, and optical transport equipment. Its services unit handles operations ranging from systems integration to network management. Ericsson's multimedia arm provides content-related products such as Internet television systems. The company's joint venture with Sony, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications, ranks among the top providers of cell telephones. Another joint venture with ST Microelectronics, ST-Ericsson, makes semiconductors mainly for wireless applications.

Telefonica O2 Germany, a subsidiary of UK-based wireless carrier Telefonica O2 Europe (owned by Spain's Telefonica), primarily provides mobile voice and data telecommunications services to about 14 million subscribers in Germany. Wireless subscribers are split nearly evenly between postpaid contracts and prepaid customers. The company also provides fixed-line Internet and other data services to more than 200,000 subscribers. It sells directly and through communications and retail partners including HanseNet, Fonic, and Schlecker. Telefonica O2 Germany sells pre-paid service under the Tchibo Mobilfunk name through a joint venture with Tchibo. Telefonica also operates in the Czech Republic, Ireland, and Slovakia.
