In addition to producing cognac, rum, gin, and vodka, the company is best known for its line of bitters, a liquid ingredient used in many cocktail recipes. The company also produces Bloody Mary seasoning and a line of soy, Teriyaki, and Worcestershire sauces. In addition, Angostura manufactures fuel ethanol. Company founder Dr. Johann Siegert developed the recipe for aromatic bitters in the Venezuelan town of Angostura in the first half of the 19th century; it was originally used to treat stomach ailments.
