The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is a watchdog for, well, watchdogs, along with all sorts of other domestic and wild animals. A leading animal protection organization, HSUS has more than 10.5 million human members and constituents. The Humane Society of the United States supports the work of local humane societies and implements a variety of investigative, educational, advocacy, and legislative programs to promote animal welfare. The Humane Society of the United States campaigns have addressed issues such as animal fighting, factory farming, the fur trade, and hunting practices. Most of its revenue comes from contributions and grants. An affiliate, Humane Society International, operates in other countries. HSUS was founded in 1954.
