Our company was founded in December of 1996 by a management-led buyout of Comstock Natural Gas (CNG). Prior to the founding of Crosstex Energy, the company operated since 1994 as Comstock Natural Gas, a subsidiary of Comstock Resources. CNG was formed by the acquisition of Ventana Natural Gas, a company founded by Barry E. Davis. One of the assets held by the company in 1996 was an east Texas system called Crosstex Pipeline. This system became the namesake for our entire company upon its formation. Since the beginning, our plan has been to provide the necessary midstream natural gas services to energy producers and consumers. Crosstex grew rapidly over the years, expanding from Texas into five states along the Gulf Coast, and from nine employees to over 750 in early 2008. In late 2009, Crosstex sold its Mississippi, Alabama and South Texas assets as well as, its natural gas treating business. Today Crosstex operates approximately 3,300 miles of pipeline with operations in North Texas and Louisiana, 10 processing plants, and three fractionators. The company provides services for 3.2 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas, or approximately six percent of marketed U.S. daily production.

On a barren piece of land in Harris County, Texas, just outside of Houston, a discouraged but still determined drilling crew struck “black gold” in 1917. Weeks after paychecks from the new Crown Oil and Refining Company had run dry, ‘Well Number 3’ finally spouted oil. What flowed from the well was more than just crude oil; it was the foundation of what became Crown Central Petroleum Corporation and has evolved into Crown Central LLC. The revenue generated by ‘Well 3’ enabled the young company to construct its own refinery. One of the very first refineries built on the Houston Ship Channel, the plant opened in 1920 with lube oil as its only product. But the range of products would begin to grow with the manufacturing of gasoline in 1925, the same year the Company was incorporated as Crown Central Petroleum Corporation.

This segment produces gasoline, diesel, jet fuels, liquefied petroleum gas, and natural gas liquids, as well as petrochemicals, such as propane, refinery grade propylene, and butanes; and other products, including anode grade coke, slurry oil, sulfur, and other blendstocks. As of December 31, 2008, this segment operated a network of 482 company-operated retail fuel and convenience stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Virginia.
