Copano was founded in 1992 by John R. Eckel, Jr., who served as its Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer until his death in November 2009. Under his leadership, Copano grew from a single 23-mile pipeline to a successful midstream natural gas company with over 6,000 miles of pipe and seven processing plants.
